Wigan Athletic Football Club – Information

Wigan Athletic Football Club are a professional football team based in Wigan, Greater Manchester, England. In 2003, Wigan (or the Latics as nick-named by their fans) were promoted to the Football League Championship for the first time, and in 2005 came second in the Coca Cola Championship to gain promotion to the Premier Leage. During their first Premiership season they stunned the whole of English football. Firstly came their historic League Cup final place, and secondly that they had managed to remain in the top half of the Premiership for the duration of the 2005-06 season. The last two seasons however were not so rewarding and Wigan Athletic have only narrowly avoided relegation both times although last seasons finish was slightly better, as they achieved a 4 point margin over the top relegated side, rather than finishing level as happened the previous season.

A strong looking young team for the 2008/09 season looks set to change all that for the Latics in the forth-coming months.
